ALFRED H. SCHMIDUTZ, 78, of Lapeer /Prudenville, went to be with his Lord August 30, 2018. He is reunited with his wife Suzie after fighting a long, hard battle with cancer.

He was born in

Toledo, Ohio, on

July 28, 1940, to Charles and Josephine (Schmidt) Schmidutz. Al proudly served his country from 1959 to 1963 in The US Navy during the Cuban

Missile Crisis.

He married Suzanne on February 14, 1981 in Las Vegas, NV. Al retired from Chevrolet Truck and Bus in Flint. He was a member of the Elks of Houghton/Higgins Lake and also a Moose member of Port Huron. Growing up, Al and his whole family lived the outdoors. Fishing, hunting and everything in nature were just a part of who they were. Al was an excellent fisherman, hunter and an awesome cook. He loved spending time in the UP and being at Camp GO-DA Town, which he established in 1988. He was a proud and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Alfred is survived by his son, Alfred J. (Lisa) Schmidutz of Newaygo, MI; daughter, Michelle Ross of North Port, FL; and daughter Angie (Rich) Morris of Lapeer; grandchildren, Courtney (Ryan) Austin, Nicole (Isaac) Miller, Erica Benham, Savannah Ross, Michael Ross, TJ Morris and Aaron Morris; many cousins, nieces and nephews

Alfred is preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne; son, John W. Horton; brother, Chuck Schmduitz; parents, Charles and Josephine Schmidutz.

A funeral service was held at Lynch and Sons Funeral directors – Capstick Chapel in Lapeer on Saturday, September 1, 2018, followed by interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Lapeer. Friar Brian Hurley officiated. Following was a luncheon hosted by the Lapeer Free Methodist Church.
