Seven Ponds offers variety of programs during July

DRYDEN TWP. — Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden Township offers a host of activities and programs to enjoy at the Crawford Road facility.

The fee for most of the following programs is the regular admission fee ($3 adults, no charge for children 12 and under, no charge for members), unless otherwise noted. Additional information can be found on the nature center’s website, www.sevenponds.org or call 810-796-3200.

Annual Summer Butterfly Count: Saturday, July 7 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Join naturalists for the annual butterfly count for the North American Butterfly Association. Participants will visit many of the nature center’s habitats in search of the variety of butterflies found at

Seven Ponds. Bring your favorite butterfly field guide, your trusty net, binoculars, and a sack lunch if you plan to stay through the afternoon.

This program is for adults and older children who have an interest in butterflies. Fee: $3 for all participants.

Curious Canoers: Sunday, July 8 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Join Seven Ponds for a morning on the ponds by canoe. Dress warm as it tends to be chillier on the water. Call to pre-register. Fee: $5 per person ($3 for members). Minimum 5 years old, 10 years old to paddle.

Family Field Netting: Saturday, July 14 at 11 a.m.

We live in a big world; it’s even bigger to an insect. Visitors will take a closer look at these tiny creatures out in the fields around Seven Ponds. Field netting is fun for all ages. Fee $3 per person (free for members). Call to pre-register.

Seasonal Walk: Saturday, July 14 from 2-3:30 p.m.

Come and explore Seven Ponds with one of the naturalists as guests look at different ecosystems this time of year.

Land Stewardship Workday: Sunday, July 15 at 11 a.m.

Participants will spend time working on non-native invasive plants. This is a great opportunity for community service hours and Master Gardener hours. Bring work gloves and water.

Stand Up Paddle Boarding: Saturday, July 21

— Session 1: 9-11a.m.

— Session 2: Noon to 2 p.m.

— Session 3: 3-5 p.m.

Experience Seven Ponds like never before, on a stand up paddle board. This SUP class will be packed with information for beginners through advanced paddlers. The class will begin on land, learning the proper stroke before participants even get on the board. Instructors will also cover all equipment and safety. Instructor Mary Radtke is a four-time Midwest Stand Up Paddle champion and has been teaching SUP for over nine years. Adults and children 12 years and older are welcome. All equipment is included. Fee: $38/session per person ($35 for members). Call the nature center to pre-register.

Golf Cart Tours: Saturday, July 21 from 10 a.m., noon and 3 p.m.

Physically impaired nature lovers can join Seven Ponds naturalists for a tour on a golf cart. Preregistration is required. Limit 3 on each tour.
