Metamora-Hadley to host free fishing event on Saturday

HADLEY TWP. — The Metamora-Hadley State Recreation Area will host a free fishing weekend with a free Family Fishing Derby from 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday (June 9).

The Derby is part of a statewide Free Fishing Weekend at all state parks and recreation areas. The DNR is waiving park entry fees June 9-10 and no fishing licenses will be required.

To participate in the derby, all people have to do is come to the red barn near the camp store and register. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Historic Farmers Market on Saturday to feature ‘Country Music Day’

LAPEER — On Saturday (June 9) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the Historic Farmers Market of Lapeer will host “Country Music Day” during which time local musicians will perform country music favorites during market hours.

June 16 is Strawberry Festival at the market, with free strawberry shortcake for visitors, starting at 10 a.m., while supplies last.

Ice Cream Social to be held June 22 in downtown Lapeer

LAPEER — Lakestone Bank & Trust employees will serve free ice cream with toppings along with popcorn and lemonade at the 17th annual Ice Cream Social on Friday, June 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the historic courthouse lawn in downtown Lapeer.

Entertainment at the event will include Oopsie Daisy the Clown and Silly Me the Clown, along with prize drawings every hour. In addition, the Lapeer Symphony Orchestra will play a selection of instrumental music.

The bank started this event as a way to say “Thank You” to community members.

Lapeer Art Association to offer summer art camp for area children

LAPEER — The Lapeer Art Association (LAA) will host a Lapeer Summer Art Camp for Kids from July 16-21 on the Chatfield School campus.

The camp is limited to 25 students between the ages 10-14 years of age. Space is limited to 20 students and parents can register their children online at www.lapeerart.org or in person at the Gallery 194 Gift Shop. Cost for camp is $150 and will include a daily lunch and snack.
