Artwork of Joel Ellis on exhibit at Gallery 194 through Feb. 10

LAPEER — The Center for the Arts is excited to announce its next Gallery 194 exhibit: a single-artist show displaying the works of painter Joel Ellis. Ellis’ work will be on display through Feb. 10.

Art by Joel Ellis is currently displayed in businesses and private collections throughout Michigan, the Midwest, Washington D.C. and internationally. Ellis trained in a comprehensive program of art and design at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo. He taught many years for Michigan schools culminating his career as an educator at the daVinci Institute for high school students in Jackson, Michigan. His accolades as an artist include purchase selections 2015, 2016 from Goodall Gallery for display in PNC Tower in Pittsburgh, and PNC Dearborn, a featured exhibit at Michigan Economic Development Corporation and an Art Prize 2012 selection displayed at San Chez Bistro in Grand Rapids.

Ellis was also awarded Best of Show at the Mid- Michigan Art Guild and selected for the Michigan Governor’s Residence Artist’s Program. He is a former board member and current member of the Mid-Michigan Art Guild (MMAG); member of the Arts Council of Greater Lansing; Shiawassee Arts Council Owosso, and Lansing Area Arts Connection.

According to Ellis, when asked to explain the inspiration for his art, “The adventure of being in life inspires me: beautiful scenes, interactions with people, even dreams echoing a day’s experience. My only true expression of such impressions is through making art and wondering what is going to happen next?”

The Center for the Arts will be hosting a Meet-the- Artist Reception for the public on Friday, January 19 at 5-7 p.m. This is an open house style reception, admission is free and refreshments will be served. “Please come out to meet Joel and enjoy the works of art on display,” said Center for the Arts Communications Director Katie Beth Chrismer. Art can be viewed during the gallery’s business hours of 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday – Saturday.
