Hadley monument site of POW/MIA Recognition Day

HADLEY — As part of the annual POW/ MIA National Recognition Day, a Lapeer County ceremony will be held on Friday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. The event will be located this year at the Hadley flag pole monument (3551 Hadley Rd., Hadley) across from the downtown Hadley library.

The public is invited. This event is sponsored by the Lapeer County 50th Anniversary Commemorative Committee.

Free student heart screening offered Saturday at LHS

LAPEER — McLaren Lapeer Region and Beaumont Children’s will hold a free student heart screening from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 at Lapeer High School.

Pre-registration is required. Call 810- 667-5514.

Every year students die from sudden cardiac arrest due to abnormal heart structure or abnormal rhythms. To help detect young people who are at risk, the screening will include: medical history evaluation, a blood pressure check and physical examination, electrocardiogram (ECG) and an echocardiogram.

Community Colors 5K run/walk on Sept. 16 at Lapeer’s Rowden Park

LAPEER — You’re invited to join United Way of Lapeer County at the 4th Annual Community Colors 5K run/walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 on the trails at Rowden Park in Lapeer (across from McLaren Lapeer Region).

Enjoy the DJ and some colorful family fun while supporting local community programs and services.

Cost is $35 for adults and $20 for kids. Kids 0-3 years are free with adult registration. Register online at active.com and search “Lapeer Community Colors.”
