Ragtime concert on Sept. 22 to benefit Habitat for Humanity

LAPEER — Oregon Township’s Bob Milne will perform a ragtime piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 22 at Trinity United Methodist Church to benefit Habitat for Humanity Lapeer-Tuscola.

Milne’s Habitat concert run about two hours. Tickets are $18 a person and available at the ReStore and Habitat offices on North Lapeer Road in Mayfield Township.

Funds raised by the concert will help Habitat complete its home rehab project on Elm Street in Lapeer.

Fantasy Forest seeks vendors, participants

LAPEER — For 19 years Zonta ran the wildly popular Fantasy Forest in Lapeer’s Rowden Park, but three years ago after the woman’s group closed up shop the American veterans honor society 40 et 8 took it over. Going into its 22nd year, Fantasy Forest is bigger and better than ever.

Wayne Jacobs, the 37-member group’s correspondent, is looking for organizations and businesses interested in setting up a station for the mile-long walk and purchasing advertising in the event’s activity booklet.

Groups have until Sept. 26 to reserve a station or space in the activity book for the Oct. 14 event. Funds raised by the even help support 15 area charities ranging from Lapeer Area Citizens Against Domestic Assault to the Thimble Buddies Quilt Guild.

Jacobs said there is no charge for setting up a station at Fantasy Forest, but participants need to pass out candy, stickers, small toys or other treats.

Blood drive on Sept. 18

MAYFIELD TWP. — The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive from 2-6:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4139 at 128 Daley Rd. in Mayfield Township.

Spaghetti dinner on Sept. 21

HADLEY — The Hadley Lions Club will serve a spaghetti dinner from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21 at the Old Town Hall in Hadley. Proceeds support local projects.

Cost is $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and $3 for children.
