Imlay City High School, class of 1946.
He married Shirley Mather of Almont. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and retired from Montgomery Ward.
Jack was a kind, gentle man who put family above all elseÖexcept for the occasional sports event. He adored his wife and cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and later great grandchildren. He had a love of hunting and fishing, gathering berries, long walks, traveling the back roads of Michigan, taking care of his lawn and garden, and sharing the results of these loves. He was a proud Army veteran and supported veteran causes. He loved the Tigers, Lions and Wolverines in their winnings and through their struggles. He enjoyed playing golf, league bowling, and playing cards with family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all those who loved him, who called him Dad, Grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. We are blest to have him in our lives.
He was the beloved husband of the late Shirley for 57 years; dear father of Sherry (Jeff) Seregny of Rochester Hills, Jeff (Beth) Stern of Springfield, MO, Ric (Sandy) Stern of Hilliard, OH; cherished grandfather of Lindsey (Adam) Gates, Annie Stern, Daniel (Adrianne) Stern, Megan Stern, Joanna (Adam) Phemister, Rebecca Stern; great grandfather to Tyler, Sophia, and Maddox; brother of Ruth Wightman of Waterford and also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents; sister and brother-in-law, Alta and Clifford Martz; brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Grace Stern, Elmore and Florence Stern; and brother-inlaw, Wayne Wightman.
