Ice cream month

LAPEER COUNTY — July was declared National Ice Cream Month in 1984 by the late President Ronald Reagan.

This year National Ice Cream Day is celebrated on July 20. Local events will include ice cream eating contests nationwide in recognition of the delicious day.

A full 90 percent of the nation’s population enjoys ice cream and the value of frozen desserts produced annually in the U.S. is more than $20 billion, notes a news release from Ashby’s Sterling Ice Cream.

Ashby’s Sterling premium ice cream can be found at Blondie’s Sweet Boutique, The Pickle Barrel and the Parlor in Lapeer, Imlay City and Hadley, the news release added. — VIEW Staff
